Even if you're not an A list invitee to the Oscar's this year you might get
closer to the action than you think by attending any one of several Oscar
Viewing Parties happening somewhere in your area. The 78th Annual Academy Awards
takes place Sunday, March 5, at Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. It will be carried
live by the ABC Television Network beginning at 5 pm PST, preceded by a one-hour
red carpet arrivals show. And there are options to this show that seemingly
attempt to move in synch with the Hollywood affair.
The Norby Walters' 16th Annual Night of 100 Stars Oscar Gala in Beverly Hills is
a formal sit-down dinner viewing party mostly comprised of past Oscar winners
and nominees who will pay tribute to their favorite award ceremony. At the
Statuesque: Oscar Viewing Party, DIVA Magazine hosts reception and viewing party
to benefit The Jeff Griffith Youth Center for LGBT youths. Women in Film present
a Palm Springs Academy Awards Night Gala Benefit with a six- course dinner
served during the Oscar Awards. An Academy Awards Fundraising Party hosted by
JEP Boutique and Frills Boutique to benefit the San Diego Women Film Foundation
includes include food from Pick Up Stix and raffle contest prizes. APA Films's
Oscar Party 2006 in Washington, D.C., places an emphasis on Asian Pacific
American celebrities in film, and offers a casual environment to meet, mingle,
and play Asian Oscar Trivia. Hawaii International Film Festival's Oscar Night®
America Party in Honolulu, is a combined HIFF fundraiser and official Oscar
Night® America Party, sanctioned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and
Sciences. The Breckenridge Festival of Film Rolls Out the Red Carpet for This
Year's Oscars, happening in Breckenridge, allows attendees to walk a red carpet
in their best dress and then watch their favorite stars on several big screen
TVs while sampling food and wine of Breckenridge's finest restaurants. "Creative
red-carpet attire suggested, black tie optional" for the 2006 Oscar Night
America Event in St. Louis, with sparkling wine, hors d'oeuvres, and official
launch of Lester Pope's book "Lights ... Camera ... Arch! St. Louis & the
Movies".
Outside of Oscar related events, the Cinequest Film Festival, displaying
maverick uses of film and television, continues its run through March 12 in San
Jose. For Copyright Awareness Week, presented by the Copyright Society of the
USA, and co-sponsored by BMI in New York City, the goal of this national event
is to teach students the basic concepts of copyright and to encourage an
understanding and respect for the rights of creative people. A "Rock the Quad
Showcase" in London on March 8, sponsored by BMI and Gibson, featuring Titan
System, Dollface, Hansom Pilot and Lunar Mile, is an ongoing series of musical
showcases. A BMI Artist Workshop On Deal Making features panelists in a Q&A
session, happening in Nashville, March 9. The International Recording Media
Association 36th Annual Recording Media Forum meets March 9-11 in Palm Springs
to strategize on how to make rational predictions on product and delivery paths,
to build practical business models. NABOB's 22nd Annual Communication Awards
Dinner annually honors prestigious names in entertainment, communications and
public service and this year includes a feature performance by Aretha Franklin
at a March 10 event in Washington, D.C. SXSW 2006, the regarded film, music and
interactive marketing conference and festival, now includes the first annual
ScreenBurn Beta Festival enables consumers and game developers to preview the
future of this industry, running March 10-19 in Austin.
The 49th Annual New York Emmy® Awards will be presented at a special black tie
gala on March 12 in New York's Times Square district. Entries must have been
produced for and must have had their first broadcast or cablecast within the New
York Chapter's regional boundaries of New York State and Northern New Jersey.
The 21st Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony inducting Black
Sabbath, Blondie, Miles Davis, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Sex Pistols, and others, happens
March 13 in New York. ShoWest 2006 is the National Association of Theatre Owners
annual international convention for the motion picture industry, and happens
this year March 13-16 in Las Vegas. The 4th Annual TV Land Awards features Megan
Mullally as host in the annual salute to classic TV stars, shows and crew, March
19 in Santa Monica. For the Country Music Festival, hosted by the John F.
Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in partnership with the Country Music
Hall of Fame and Museum, celebrates this indigenous American music with
performances by country music artists, March 20 to April 9 in Washington, D.C.
Miami Winter Music Conference, regarded as the networking event in the dance
music industry, runs March 24-28 in Miami Beach.
