Ways To Protect Yourself on Myspace.com
by Paul Penafiel
You might think that how can
anyone get protection in cyberspace, after all the entire Internet is like
absolute space. If it is the Internet, then you need protection.
Protecting yourself from Myspace would be the first and utmost thing on your
mind before you even click away for sign up. When we talk about protection on
the Internet, it sounds quite vague. You can browse through a web page but you
cannot feel it. But you must have read this somewhere "Growing number of child
molesters using Myspace to arrange meetings with minors" or "Teenage girl
kidnapped by older man she met on Myspace" This is not fake, we are talking
about facts folks! In fact, there has been such a furor that school teachers and
parents have stood together to ban myspace. Are they going to succeed? No!
Never! Why? Because Myspace is a fun place and it is no more dangerous than
riding a school bus or shopping at the super market.
The Safety Drill Myspace is a comprehensive fun site where you are in control of
your profile. Myspace provide the tools and you control what goes into your
profile and what goes out. There are many options, which can make your work
easier but very few people know about it. You have absolute control of what kind
of info you will provide for thousands of people to see and use.
A wise man once said that, "Our destiny lies in our hands" Sometimes knowing the
danger, we do not take precautions. Therefore, when danger comes calling, we are
left helpless and defenseless. However, we are not trying to scare you because
it is a fun site and we would want you to have a high in life. We just want you
to be safe always.
Here are some tips that will definitely provide you with some security.
1.Get away from the about me page: In the about me page, you get the option of
introducing yourself and giving vital information like name, date of birth,
place you stay etc. Anyone with bad intentions can probably get you social
security number from your name or birth date. Don't give out those kind of info
instead, use fictitious names like bob or jane d.
2.Here is a nice process. Sometimes, you will notice mails from strangers trying
to add you on. What to do? Simple! Just use the options to your advantage and
anyone who wants to add you on, as a friend would need to either your email
addressor or last name to go ahead. Isn't that neat? if they have a blog, go an
visit it and check it out, if they hide their profile there or not as
forthcoming, that tells you something.
3.Hide your online status like if you are using Yahoo messenger then there are
stealth settings that you can use. This enables you to hide from people you do
not want to talk to.
4.Let us talk about Private profile. Myspace allows you to have a private
profile, which means that only people on your friend list can view the profile.
For the rest of the world, it would be hidden.
Now you should be armed and ready to sign up on myspace.
